The Boy Scouts of America Sea Scouts Program

Bruce Weyhrauch

Since 1987, Bruce Weyhrauch has provided legal counsel and representation to individuals and businesses in Juneau, Alaska, focusing primarily on labor relations, natural resources, fisheries, marine transportation, and construction disputes. Apart fro his legal services, Bruce Weyhrauch is an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and has served as a den leader, merit badge counselor, charter representative, and Cubmaster.

In addition to its traditional scouting programs, the BSA operates the Sea Scout initiative, a specialized program that challenges scouts to develop their boating skills and learn about maritime history. The Sea Scouts split into units referred to as “ships” and learn the safe operation of a range of boats, including sailboats and powerboats.

The majority of ships hold regular formal meetings during which scouts wear full work or dress uniforms. The meetings focus on beneficial topics for boaters, including first aid, swimming, and the work of the Coast Guard. Beyond sailing, Sea Scouts attend regattas and gain access to internship opportunities.
